Seán Ó Riada John Kelly Tune

Name

Seán Ó Riada John Kelly Tune (March)

About

John Kelly Senior & Seán Ó Riada (1931 – 1971) first met in 1959 and were close friends throughout their lives. John and Seán collaborated musically from early on in their relationship. Seán composed the first half of the march and John composed the second half.

The tune is loosely based on a song called ‘We are the golden folk’ and James Kelly believes that it may have been part of a project that Seán Ó Riada was working on.

Michael Gavin, who was part of Ceoltóirí Laighean let me know that he believes the name of this is actually ‘Na Sioga’ and they played it often as part of that group.
